General Public Transportation

To make transportation available to more people, CTN is becoming more efficient. It has changed the three daily trips made from Siler City to Pittsboro to Chapel Hill from a demand/response system to deviated fixed stops called the Cross County Route. It has 11 stops from beginning to end operating according to a published schedule (see schedule). A passenger can go from Siler City to work at Chatham Crossing in Northeast Chatham or to a medical appointment in Chapel Hill, and know the schedule for pick up and return via the stops. The next step is to establish a fixed route throughout Siler City. In order to make transportation available to more people we must become more efficient. The demand is greater than the funds to support public ridership.

The NC DOT Public Transportation Division provides some funding based on a formula allocation for public transportation.

The amount Chatham Transit receives for this service limits the amounts of service that can be provided.

Parameters of service have been established to use the funds in the most cost effective and efficient manner.
