RULES OF THE ROAD

Chatham Transit Project Health bus
Chatham Transit - person with disability getting on bus

Chatham Transit Network appreciates your business. We must, however, have rules for our passengers in order to make our transportation safe and efficient.

• In Siler City and Pittsboro, same day service is available between 8 AM and 4:30 PM each week day. The average pick-up time for same day service is 15 minutes, but the nature of transportation is such that we cannot give an exact time for pick-up and drop-off. Please be ready 1 hour before your scheduled pick-up time.

• For a guaranteed seat on the Cross County route that runs from Siler City to Pittsboro to Fearrington Village to Chapel Hill (see schedule) please call by 12 PM noon the day before you want to ride to make a reservation. The remaining seats are available on a first come first serve basis, so please arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes before the scheduled arrival time of the bus.

• If you have an appointment at a specific time of day, no matter what service you use,  please reserve your ride by 12 PM noon the day before your appointment so we can plan to get you there on time.

• The vehicle will wait 3 minutes at the stop for you to board.

•The vehicle cannot backtrack for pick-up or to be dropped off and does not make multiple stops for passengers.

• All communication for pick-up and drop-off must be made with Chatham Transit’s dispatcher. Do not make reservations through the driver. Please contact our dispatch at 542-5136.

• Drivers have a schedule to maintain. They are not allowed to help carry packages.
Do not attempt to board a van with more packages than you can hold on your lap. This requirement is for your safety as well as the safety of the other passengers.

• If you call for a ride and then are not available when the driver arrives, it will be recorded as a no-show. Riders are allowed 2 no shows in 6 months. Chatham Transit will send a warning letter after the first time you no-show. After the second-no show you will not be allowed to be transported for 90 days. Transportation will resume after the 90 day period. However, if you do not show for a scheduled pick-up 2 additional times in the next 6 months you will lose your ridership privilege permanently.
