HUMAN SERVICE TRANSPORTATION
Human Service Transportation is the transportation that the Network provides to other human service agencies such as the area mental health program, health department, sheltered workshops, aging programs, social services and other social programs. An Executive Order by the President and the Governor plus regulations from both the Federal and State Divisions of Health and Human Services mandates coordination of transportation services between the departments of HHS and the Community Transportation Programs.
Coordination of transportation services may include the actual provision of transportation, but not necessarily. Chatham Transit Network, as the Community Transportation Program for Chatham County, serves other agencies as a mobility manager. Each social program must pay for the transportation they provide for their clients. Chatham Transit Network does not receive any money to operate vehicles for human service transportation. If a human service program chooses to provide their clients with transportation then they must pay for it. This is called subscription service and since the human service program is paying they determine everything about the route (the course of the route, the days and time it will run, who rides, if they will charge a fare, etc.)
As the mobility manager, Chatham Transit Network provides information on transportation options, funding sources and the provision of the most cost effective, economically and environmentally sound safe transportation for residents of Chatham County.
